Over 55,000 affected in Riverside Resort & Casino data breach


LAUGHLIN — The Riverside Resort & Casino disclosed on September 5 that it experienced a data breach impacting around 55,155 individuals earlier this year.

The breach occurred on July 25 and was immediately detected, as detailed in a recent filing by the law firm Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker, LLP, representing the casino.

Assistant General Manager Matthew Laughlin explained that following the incident’s discovery, the casino engaged cybersecurity experts to conduct an in-depth investigation. Their findings indicated that unauthorized access to certain files might have occurred.

Among the potentially compromised data are names and social security numbers. Letters informing those affected were dispatched last week.

In response, Riverside is offering a year of complimentary credit monitoring and fraud assistance to those impacted by the breach.

“Data security is one of our highest priorities. We acted swiftly to investigate upon detection of this incident,” Laughlin emphasized. “We also promptly disabled all relevant accounts and collaborated with specialists to ensure the security of our systems.”

The breach’s reach extends beyond Nevada, with individuals from Texas, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine identified among the affected. Residents from California and Vermont may also be impacted.

Importantly, Riverside has stated there is no knowledge of any actual or attempted misuse of the compromised personal information, according to filings with the New Hampshire Department of Justice.

Affected individuals are urged to monitor their credit reports for any unusual activity and notify their financial institutions regarding the breach. Details on accessing the complimentary credit monitoring services are included in the notification letters sent out.
