Olympic Silver Medalist’s Parmesan Cheese Sponsorship Takes Internet by Storm
PARIS, France — Italian gymnast Giorgia Villa has helped her country secure a place on the podium for the first time since 1928 with a silver medal in the Paris Olympics.
Interestingly, Villa has caught social media’s attention not just for her athletic prowess but for her unique partnership. She is a brand ambassador for Parmigiano Reggiano, the official consortium of producers of parmesan cheese.
“I need the people to know that Olympic silver medalist Giorgia Villa is sponsored by parmesan cheese and regularly posts pics of herself with giant wheels of cheese,” noted one user on X, with this revelation shared over 22,000 times.
Pictures of Villa performing gymnastic feats like the splits and handstands with massive wheels of cheese have gone viral.
Villa’s last Parmigiano Reggiano-sponsored post was in 2022, and the consortium has not commented on whether the partnership continues.
Villa was initially set to compete in Tokyo, but a sprained ankle forced her to withdraw. The 21-year-old gymnast represented Italy in the team final in Paris but did not advance to individual apparatus finals.
According to Italian marketing agency Impresa e Sport, other athletes such as basketball player Nico Mannion, fencer Matteo Neri, and Paralympic swimmer Giulia Ghiretti have also served as Parmigiano Reggiano ambassadors.
