The Maricopa Unified School District (MUSD) is on the brink of making a significant decision regarding the location of its third middle school. The designated site spans approximately 30 acres within the burgeoning Sorrento community, specifically at the intersection of Sorrento Boulevard and Capri Road.

School board members are scheduled to convene at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the district’s administrative offices, located at 44150 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. The future school site is mapped out south of North Sorrento Boulevard, opposite West Capri Avenue.

For over six months, the MUSD Governing Board has engaged in deliberations concerning the proposed site, which will encompass 96,670 square feet of new educational infrastructure. These discussions, as permitted by Arizona Open Meetings Law for land acquisitions, have taken place in executive sessions.

Significant funding has been secured for this project. The state has provided $31 million through a new school construction grant, designated to accommodate students from grades six through eight. Construction is projected to commence within the next 12 to 15 months, aiming for a completion date and subsequent opening in July 2026.

This new establishment is poised to address the growing educational needs of the rapidly expanding Sorrento neighborhood, signaling a substantial step forward in the district’s development plans.
