More Days Above 100°F Ahead, Yet a Cool Down May Be on the Horizon!

More 100 degree-plus days, but there is hope the streak could end soon

Calmer weather is expected in the Valley on Sunday following storms and dust that impacted areas the day before. The forecast suggests a chance of cooler temperatures on the horizon.

On Saturday, scattered storms developed along the Mogollon Rim, resulting in some rain and blowing dust across the northern Valley. As the storms moved south, their intensity decreased.

Sunday’s weather will still see isolated afternoon storms in central and northern Arizona’s high country, though coverage will be lighter compared to Saturday.

A shift towards dry conditions is anticipated as a dry air mass from the east settles in, leading to reduced moisture statewide into the next weekend.

In regard to temperatures, Phoenix recorded a sweltering 110 degrees on Saturday. This marks the 58th occurrence of 110-degree days this year, surpassing last year’s total of 55. The upcoming midweek period may add one or two more such days before a transition to more typical temperatures begins.

The streak of 100-degree days at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport has now extended to 104 consecutive days, a record that may conclude by next Sunday or Monday.
