Mom Allegedly Threatens Son with Knife Over Chores Argument, Say Police
A Homestead mother, identified as 56-year-old Gloria L. Cobbs, was arrested on Sunday following a violent family dispute, according to the Maricopa Police Department. The confrontation involved Cobbs allegedly threatening to kill her son and chasing him with a kitchen knife.
The incident escalated after the son failed to complete his chores, specifically washing the dishes. Cobbs reportedly told police dispatchers she “needs him gone before she kills him.”
Maricopa police charged Cobbs with multiple offenses, including weapons charges, threatening, and endangerment. The police report, obtained by InMaricopa, states Cobbs justified her actions by saying her son deserved to die due to his disobedience.
Both Cobbs and her son contacted the police during the altercation. Dispatchers reportedly heard a woman’s voice shouting for a bat during the call.
When officers arrived at the West Thornberry Lane home, Cobbs was visibly agitated and denied using a knife despite her son’s claims. According to the redacted police documents, the son, presumed to be a juvenile, asserted that Cobbs initially tried to discipline him with a bat.
After the son wrestled the bat away, Cobbs allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and chased him around the house. “Based on the statements provided during the interviews, the 9-1-1 call audio, and the totality of the circumstance, there is probable cause to believe that Gloria threatened to kill [her son] and was in possession of a kitchen knife and a bat during the altercation,” the police report states.
Following her arrest, Cobbs was booked into the Pinal County jail and now faces up to two-and-a-half years in prison.
