Mohave Community College Secures Nearly $3 Million Grant
KINGMAN — Mohave Community College has secured a significant federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education, totaling nearly $3 million. This funding aims to enhance the educational opportunities for the diverse population of students within the county.
The grant specifically focuses on the Pathways to Success for Hispanic and Low-Income Students project. As a Hispanic-serving institution, MCC is dedicated to fostering an educational environment that empowers students from various backgrounds.
This initiative seeks to improve academic success, increase graduation rates, and enhance career readiness among Hispanic and low-income student groups. “This grant will have a transformative impact on our students, especially those who need the most support,” stated MCC President Dr. Stacy Klippenstein.
The project will expand crucial aspects essential to student success, including pathway selection and college readiness. By offering personalized guidance, MCC aims to assist students in navigating their academic and career choices, consequently reducing degree completion time. Furthermore, the college plans to enhance preparatory programs for college-level courses, alongside implementing support mechanisms like tutoring and coaching.
MCC Executive Vice President Tim Culver expressed pride in receiving the grant, considering it a valuable opportunity for expanding support for Hispanic and low-income students. The initiative is grounded in the Guided Pathways Framework, which emphasizes clear, structured pathways for students to follow.
To bolster student success, MCC is developing detailed academic program maps that will direct students toward their career and educational goals. The college is also refining its onboarding process to ensure every student has a tailored educational plan.
This grant comes as MCC intensifies its commitment to serving the diverse population in Mohave County, the fifth largest county in the U.S. The college’s mission aligns with the grant’s objectives, especially in enhancing inclusive support services for underrepresented student groups.
Currently, the college is enrolling students for short-term fall semester classes beginning on October 14. Interested individuals can find more information at Mohave.edu/Admission.
