Maricopa High School’s Ram Stadium is set for a significant transformation this year with a $655,000 renovation project approved by the Maricopa Unified School District’s governing board.

The project will replace the aging turf at the school’s football stadium, entrusting the work to Kansas-based Mammoth Sports Construction. Chief Financial Officer Jacob Harmon outlined the timeline, stating that installation is scheduled for spring break, which will provide a cost-effective solution for the district.

This upgrade aims to have the new field ready for graduation festivities, which is an important milestone for students and their families. Harmon noted that the existing turf, now 12 years old, has outlived its warranty and has struggled to withstand the harsh Arizona sun.

“The turf has not been equipped to handle the climate here,” Harmon stated. He further emphasized the necessity for a replacement due to the materials’ aging.

Additionally, the board is contemplating a $35,000 optional enhancement involving a premium synthetic soil called Geofill. This feature promises to keep the field cooler, an essential upgrade for maintaining playability in the hot Arizona weather.

The new design, which will pay tribute to the school’s mascot with a Ram stretching the length of the field, is set to be revealed in the upcoming weeks during a governing board meeting.
