Meet Simone Biles' Husband: Unveiling Jonathan Owens and His Incredible Story

The gymnastics star’s husband is expected to cheer her on in Paris for the final round.

WASHINGTON — Simone Biles is set to compete in her third Olympics, nearly three years after prioritizing her mental health during the Tokyo Games.

With the twisties and Tokyo behind her, Biles is leading Team USA’s women’s gymnastics alongside stars Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and newcomer Hezly Rivera.

At 27, Biles became the oldest American woman to make an Olympic gymnastics team since the 1950s, securing her spot after a victorious performance at the Olympic trials last month.

In the years following Tokyo, Biles experienced significant changes in her life. Last year, she made a triumphant return to gymnastics, clinching a record sixth world title. She maintains regular therapy sessions even during competitions to ensure her mental health remains a priority.

Outside of gymnastics, Biles married her long-time partner, Jonathan Owens, last year.

Who is Simone Biles’ husband?

The couple married in April 2023 at a Houston courthouse, having met on a dating app called Raya in March 2020. They then celebrated with a second ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. “I do … officially Owens,” Biles announced on Instagram, while Owens called her “My person, forever.”

Owens, an athlete himself, currently plays as a safety for the Chicago Bears. The NFL team has allowed him to miss five days of training camp to travel to Paris and support Biles. On Sunday, Owens posted photos on Instagram while cheering her on from the U.S. He is expected to head to Paris Monday night, just before the gymnastics finals.

The couple is also building a house in the Houston suburbs, expected to be completed in late summer or early fall, post-Paris Games.

Support flows both ways in their relationship. During the 2024 NFL season, Biles was often seen at Green Bay Packers’ games, supporting Owens and his team’s bid for the Super Bowl.
