Maricopa County School Superintendent Shelli Boggs has sent a compelling letter to schools and board members, instructing them to comply with an Executive Order from former President Donald Trump aimed at terminating illegal Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies. This directive comes as a significant shift in educational policy within the county.

In her communication, Boggs outlined crucial steps for schools to eliminate any DEI-centric hiring, training, and curricular practices deemed non-compliant with federal law. While the Superintendent lacks the authority to enforce these changes directly, she strongly recommends that schools adhere to these guidelines to “restore education to its core mission.”

“DEI programs have been used as a tool to divide students, teachers, and parents rather than foster true unity and equal opportunity,” Boggs remarked. She asserts that educational environments should prioritize learning over ideological instruction, emphasizing that the primary focus must be on equipping students with essential skills for success.

The Superintendent further explained that the appointment of school board members remains critical, as they share policy-setting power within districts. She insists that these appointees focus on meritocracy and academic excellence rather than political influences, advocating for a system that acknowledges hard work and achievement without compromising standards for the sake of equity.

Additionally, Boggs informed school administrators that the county will monitor compliance with the new directives and has made resources available to facilitate a smooth transition away from existing DEI policies. She reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that all students receive a high-quality education that is free from divisive political agendas.
