Major Closures Announced for Southbound I-17 and Northbound Loop 101 from July 12-15
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced significant freeway closures this weekend in the Phoenix area. These closures, affecting Interstate 17 and Loop 101 (Price Freeway), will be in effect from July 12 to July 15 for various improvement projects.
Southbound I-17 will be closed at Jomax Road starting from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. This closure is part of a pavement improvement project. Drivers will detour using the Jomax Road off- and on-ramps. Additionally, southbound I-17 will be reduced to one lane between Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive and Jomax Road. East- and westbound Jomax Road will also be closed at I-17.
Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time and prepare for merging traffic. It is advisable to avoid detouring on streets east of I-17 which are designed for local traffic only.
In another major closure, northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) will be closed between Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) in Chandler and US 60 (Superstition Freeway) in Tempe. This closure will also begin at 9 p.m. Friday and last until 5 a.m. Monday for pavement improvement work.
As an alternative, drivers should consider using westbound I-10 and eastbound US 60 to reach northbound Loop 101.
