LHHS Knights Lead Mohave County in State Championship Band Competition
The Lake Havasu High School Band of Knights is set to compete in the state championship this Saturday, marking their second consecutive year in the event. This year, they achieve this milestone as the only school from outside Phoenix or Tucson.
Under the direction of Kimberly Schreiber, the band earned eighth place out of 21 bands in their division during the semifinals, narrowly edging out the Kingman band, which placed ninth. “It was very competitive,” Schreiber remarked, emphasizing the close scoring with less than half a point separating the two bands.
Eleven dedicated seniors have played a pivotal role in this year’s success, as Schreiber notes the strong leadership present. The band members have shown remarkable teamwork, culminating in their achievement thus far.
However, the upcoming performance hinges on how the judges perceive their presentation during the competition. “They don’t have an idea of the blood, sweat, and tears that goes into everything they do,” Schreiber pointed out, highlighting the dedication involved that extends beyond mere performance.
The championship opportunity comes with significant financial burdens. Travel expenses, including registration fees, transportation, and accommodations, pose challenges for the band. To alleviate these costs, they are actively seeking community support.
The band may need to stay in a hotel the night before the event due to an early report time of 7 a.m. at Glendale Community College Stadium on Saturday. Since qualifying earlier this month, they have received donations from local businesses and individuals, but additional support is still needed. Contributions can be directed to the LHHS Band Boosters or through the district at 928-505-6900.
This year’s performance is titled “Black Swan,” promising to showcase the hard work and passion of the Band of Knights.
