Kingman man arrested for murder

Police in Kingman, Arizona, have apprehended a man accused of fatally shooting his roommate. The incident occurred early Wednesday at a residence on the 2200 block of Davis Avenue. Authorities responded to the scene around 6:30 a.m. on July 24.

Deputy Kingman Police Chief Joel Freed reported that officers discovered 31-year-old Patrick Eugene Benson with a gunshot wound to the head. Despite life-saving efforts, Benson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators quickly identified the victim’s roommate, 58-year-old Melvin Leroy Grayson, as the primary suspect. Reports indicated that Grayson fled the scene shortly after the shooting. A warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued.

Bullhead City Police Department’s public information officer, Emily Fromelt, stated that a Corporal in Bullhead City identified a man matching Grayson’s description at a Circle K store on Highway 95 at approximately 3:25 a.m. on July 25. Grayson was arrested without incident in the store’s parking lot.

Kingman police officials transported Grayson back to Kingman, where he was booked into the Adult Detention Center. He faces charges including first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Freed mentioned that detectives interviewed witnesses to the shooting, but the motive remains unclear and is part of an ongoing investigation. He also noted that the murder weapon was not immediately recovered.
