John Wayne Parkway faced closure today as a significant power outage impacted thousands of Maricopa residents and businesses. The outage, reported by Electrical District No. 3 (ED3), began around 2:30 p.m. and left approximately 4,532 customers without electricity.

By 4:12 p.m., power was restored to most affected areas, ED3 spokesperson Diana Perkins confirmed. “All power should be restored as of right now,” she stated. The situation was attributed to an issue with the Bay 3 arrestor located at the Maricopa West substation. Line crews effectively executed a switching operation to restore service.

Inspection by ED3 crews is underway to ascertain the root cause of the outage. The west side of the John Wayne strip was particularly hit hard, with many businesses temporarily forced to close their doors.

Affected residential areas included Maricopa Meadows, Maricopa Manor, and Alterra. As the situation developed, inquiries regarding the outage’s cause and expected restoration times were made, although specific details remain unclear.

This incident is unfolding, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
