Hoax Bomb Threats Disrupt Arizona Polling: Four Sites Targeted
Arizona has joined a list of states facing bomb threats aimed at polling places, with the FBI attributing these threats to Russian sources. In a press briefing on Tuesday, Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes confirmed that the threats were directed at four specific locations within Navajo County.
Fontes described the bomb threats as “unsubstantiated,” further stating that while their Russian origins were noted, no additional details could be shared. The FBI indicated that similar threats have impacted several states, all linked to email domains associated with Russia. Importantly, none of the threats have been considered credible.
Despite the alarming nature of the threats, Fontes reassured the public that they did not lead to the closure of any polling places, and no voters were turned away. “We don’t have any reason to believe anyone is in jeopardy,” he asserted.
In contrast, Georgia is experiencing disruptions due to similar bomb threats, prompting election officials there to seek a court order for certain polling places to extend their hours beyond the usual 7 p.m. deadline. Details regarding which specific polling locations in Arizona were targeted remain undisclosed, and an inquiry sent to the Navajo County Elections Department went unanswered.
Other swing states have also reported comparable threats, indicating a broader issue affecting electoral processes across the country.
