Heated Showdown Looms: District 2 Mohave County Supervisor Candidates Clash Again
BULLHEAD CITY — With less than two weeks until the primary election, the race for Mohave County District 2 supervisor is intensifying.
A crucial debate for District 2 candidates is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at El Salon, located at 788 Gemstone Avenue. The debate will be monitored by Paul Bull.
The candidates vying for the county supervisor seat are Bullhead City Councilmembers Grace Hecht and Rich Lettman, alongside Bullhead City resident William “Scotty” McClure.
Tensions flared last week during the July 16 City Council meeting, where Lettman accused McClure of threatening him over a heated exchange recorded in the city hall lobby.
Lettman stated, “I believe that Mr. McClure personally threatened me… He talks about pushing an object up my ass. I don’t like that and I find that threatening. It’s inappropriate.” Lettman indicated his intent to file a police report, emphasizing the need to protect city employees from such behavior.
City Attorney Garn Emery cautioned Lettman twice about using councilmember reports for political purposes, as they are intended for comments on current events.
McClure dismissed Lettman’s accusations, calling them “ridiculous.” “I’ve never had a problem, never had a cop calling me ever for violence, and I’m 76 years old,” McClure said. He cited his hearing impairment and tendency to speak loudly as contributing factors to the misunderstanding.
According to McClure, the argument with the Planning/Code Enforcement Manager Johnny Loera was about the city removing his political signs. McClure is also leading the opposition campaign to Proposition 416.
During the July 16 meeting’s Call to the Public, several citizens criticized candidate Hecht for a postcard she mailed to voters, implicating Lettman in a bankruptcy. Hecht chose not to comment on these statements, noting they were unrelated to city business.
Lettman addressed the mailer on his campaign Facebook page, comparing himself to President Trump and stating that his step-brother had taken advantage of him, leading to financial turmoil. He emphasized that he had worked with the victims at great personal and financial cost.
In his social media video, Lettman challenged Hecht to a public debate, urging her to “name the time and place.”
