Havasu’s Daughters of the American Revolution hosts traditional Constitution celebration

Throughout the week of September 17 to September 23, 2023, Lake Havasu City will commemorate U.S. Constitution Week with various events aimed at fostering public knowledge about the nation’s founding documents.

This observance, which began as a result of a resolution signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956, is organized by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Havasu Chapter. Their efforts stemmed from a petition by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

DAR plans an open house at the Mohave County Library in Lake Havasu City, distinct from additional planned activities by Lake Havasu City U.S. Constitution Week. Bonnie Humphrey, the treasurer of DAR, highlights the importance of these educational efforts.

Event Chair Millie Morris will lead a traditional bell-ringing ceremony during the open house, reinforcing the patriotic significance of the week. “We’re celebrating the founding of our country, and it’s something we all should be proud of,” Morris stated.

According to Morris, the open house aims to engage attendees of all ages, providing insights into the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The event is scheduled for Tuesday from 2 to 5 p.m.

She emphasizes the crucial role of instilling respect for the Constitution in youth, ensuring they carry forward the reverence associated with the founding of the nation. “Learning about this early helps our young people grow up appreciating our history,” added Morris.

The Mohave County Library Lake Havasu City branch is located at 1770 McCulloch Blvd. N. For more information regarding the open house, contact Millie Morris at 951-741-8971 or visit havasu.arizonadar.org.
