Havasu man shot by officers now in rehabilitation facility

A Lake Havasu City man, Justin J. Allen, is recuperating at a Phoenix medical rehabilitation center six weeks after being shot by a local police officer.

Authorities reported that on June 10, 27-year-old Allen caused a disturbance in his neighborhood, prompting a police response to the 2700 block of Arcadia Drive. Lake Havasu City Police officer Michael Thornhill arrived at Allen’s residence and attempted to make contact.

According to the police, Allen opened his door wielding a shotgun and ordered Thornhill to leave his property. Ignoring multiple commands to drop his weapon, Allen allegedly moved in a threatening manner toward Thornhill, who then fired on Allen multiple times.

First responders quickly transported Allen to Havasu Regional Medical Center. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later flown to a Phoenix hospital in critical condition.

The Bullhead City Police Department, now heading the investigation, stated that Phoenix Police officers will serve Allen with a warrant for aggravated assault against an officer upon his release. Allen will be moved to Maricopa County Jail, awaiting extradition to Mohave County under a $50,000 bond, as per Lake Havasu City Justice Court records.

In accordance with standard procedures, officer Thornhill has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation into the June 10 incident.
