Grille Unveils Bold New Ownership Era

Sheldon Knapp, the founding partner of Phoenix City Grille at 16th Street and Bethany Home Road, has announced a significant transition in the restaurant’s leadership. Longtime executive chef Micah Wyzlic and industry veteran Dennis Shaw are now the new operating partners of this beloved neighborhood eatery.

In a statement regarding the change, Knapp expressed full confidence in his successors. “I am completely confident that Phoenix City Grille and our incredibly loyal customer base are in excellent hands with Dennis and Micah at the helm,” he remarked. While he steps into a semi-retired role, he retains a minority stake in the business, allowing him to collaborate with Shaw and Wyzlic while prioritizing family time.

Shaw brings an impressive resume, showcasing 40 years of experience in the culinary field. His past roles include ownership and management of Sam & Luca Rustic Kitchen and serving as food and beverage director at Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa. Additionally, he held pivotal roles at Lon’s at the Hermosa Inn, further proving his managerial expertise.

Wyzlic’s journey with Phoenix City Grille began in 1999, shortly after the restaurant opened. A graduate of the Scottsdale Culinary Institute in 1998, he excelled as a chef, crafting many signature dishes that remain integral to the menu. After a brief hiatus, Wyzlic returned to the restaurant in 2018 as managing partner, where he has also enhanced the establishment’s whiskey program and curated private barrel selections.
