Game Challenge Envisions a Daring 2100!
The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) has launched the NSF Game Maker Awards competition titled “Life in 2100,” inviting K-12 students to envision the future through video game design. This initiative marks a celebration of the NSF’s 75th anniversary, encouraging creativity and innovation among young minds.
Students are tasked with creating games that depict life 75 years ahead, with a submission deadline set for January 31, 2025, at 5 p.m. EST. “The NSF Game Maker Awards challenge young minds to unleash creativity and sharpen technical skills while exploring STEM concepts,” stated NSF director Sethuraman Panchanathan. He remarked on the significance of this competition in nurturing early interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
A total of $7,500 in prizes will be awarded across various categories, with an emphasis on recognizing the contributions of mentors, teachers, or guardians who assist in the game development process. Winning entries will also be highlighted during NSF’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
This competition serves as a platform for students nationwide to engage with game design and STEM, encouraging them to think critically about the future and share their unique insights. The NSF aims to inspire a new generation of scientists, engineers, and game designers ready to lead advancements in technology and innovation.
