Failure to yield likely cause of two-car crash: cops

A two-car accident on Maricopa’s main thoroughfare left one vehicle in the bushes and resulted in significant damage early this morning. The incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. at the intersection of North John Wayne Parkway and Edison Road.

Responding to the scene, Maricopa police, fire crews, and EMTs found a heavily damaged Dodge Charger in the southbound lanes, while a red Hyundai Elantra had veered off the roadway into nearby bushes. Airbags in both vehicles had deployed, indicating the severity of the crash.

According to police, the accident was likely caused by a driver failing to yield, rather than impairment. Cpl. Julio Collazo affirmed that no injuries required hospitalization. The scene was cleared by 2 a.m., allowing traffic to resume.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and obeying traffic signals. As investigations continue, drivers are urged to remain vigilant and prioritize safe driving practices.
