Ex-White House Advance Team Member Predicts Trump’s Security Detail Will Expand

PHOENIX — Amid a concerning resurgence of threats against former President Donald Trump, security measures are expected to intensify during his potential visits to Arizona. Frank Thorwald, a former member of the Presidential Advance team, emphasizes the urgent need for increased protection for Trump following recent assassination attempts.

Thorwald, who assisted Reagan and Bush with their travel logistics, notes that outdoor events pose significant challenges. “There could be drones or other technologies that can easily be utilized maliciously,” he commented. He anticipates that, for the remainder of Trump’s campaign, indoor gatherings will become the norm due to such security concerns.

Recent rallies held in Glendale and Tucson have already showcased this shift. Thorwald predicts an increase in both Secret Service personnel and local law enforcement, some of whom will blend into the crowd to maintain security discreetly.

Reflecting on the past, Thorwald vividly recalls the 1981 assassination attempt on Reagan. He expressed disbelief at the rising threats against former presidents, asserting that even the highly regarded Secret Service is not infallible. “The Secret Service has always been a very effective tool,” he stated, while also conveying concern over divisive political rhetoric that could lead to further violence.

Phoenix Police have outlined their commitment to public safety in the face of potential visits from Trump. “The U.S. Secret Service is the primary agency for providing security,” their statement read. “Our department acts in support of the Secret Service and is prepared to provide necessary assistance.” Additionally, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office manages election security, with local police trained to collaborate across various agencies to ensure a coordinated response.
