Maricopa Police Department responded early this morning to a collision involving a dump truck and a sedan at one of the city’s most frequented intersections. The incident resulted in injuries to the commuter driving the sedan.

A witness reported seeing extensive glass scattered across the northbound lanes of John Wayne Parkway at Smith-Enke Road shortly before 8 a.m. Despite the crash, MPD spokesperson Monica Williams stated that the intersection was only briefly affected.

Williams indicated that officers were continuing their investigation in the CVS parking lot adjacent to the scene. She described the incident as a low-speed rear-end collision where the dump truck struck the sedan.

The driver of the gray Chevrolet Malibu suffered injuries. Witnesses noted that the rear windshield of her vehicle was completely shattered. As of now, it remains unclear if the male driver of the dump truck, affiliated with a Glendale-based sand and gravel company, was cited for following too closely.

Authorities are expected to release more details as the investigation unfolds.
