Pima County wants you to design new library cards

Pima County is set to introduce new limited-edition library cards and is inviting the public to contribute to the design process.

A design contest has been announced by the library, calling on artists of all ages to submit their work online by August 14. This year’s theme, “Seasons of Pima County,” encourages participants to depict what they associate with various times of the year.

Potential inspirations include dramatic monsoon storms over the mountains, the long shadows of saguaros during a winter sunset, or the sight of the snow-capped Catalinas and Rincons. The library is eager to see how artists interpret the essence of the community through these seasonal lenses.

A committee of library staff will select six card designs from the submissions. The judging process will aim for diversity in media types and representation of the varied experiences and cultures within Pima County. Other criteria will focus on appeal to different age groups, thematic interpretation, and appropriateness.

The chosen designs will be unveiled later this year, available across all Pima County library locations while supplies last. Patrons will have the opportunity to exchange their current cards for the new editions without losing any account information or browsing history.

For those interested in participating, detailed design requirements, templates, and the submission portal can be found at library.pima.gov/seasons.
