Bobby Witt Jr. Shines with Homer, Triple, and Double in Royals’ 10-4 Triumph over Diamondbacks
Bobby Witt Jr. fell just short of making history as the Kansas City Royals triumphed over the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 10-4 victory on Monday night. Witt needed just a single to complete the cycle, a feat last achieved by a Royals player in 1990.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Bobby Witt Jr. fell short of history, but that didn’t stop the Kansas City Royals from continuing their winning streak. With homers from Salvador Perez and Hunter Renfroe, the Royals secured their fourth consecutive win against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Witt started strong with a triple in the first inning, followed by a double in the third. His three-run homer in the fourth sent the crowd into a frenzy. When Witt was hit by a pitch in the sixth, fans erupted with boos, hoping for a rare cycle.
His next chance came in the eighth inning, but he flew out to right field. The last Royal to hit for the cycle was George Brett in 1990. Witt, named American League Player of the Week, is on a tear, going 12 for 15 since participating in the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby.
The Kansas City Royals, now at 56-45, are eyeing a wild-card playoff berth. Cole Ragans delivered a sturdy performance despite some struggles, marking his eighth quality start in nine games. He allowed three runs over six innings.
Arizona initially led 3-1 in the third inning with back-to-back doubles from Kevin Newman and Alek Thomas, followed by a two-run homer from Ketel Marte. Kansas City quickly responded, taking a 4-3 lead with contributions from Witt, Pasquantino, and Perez.
Witt’s three-run blast off Miguel Castro extended the lead to 8-3. Later, Hunter Renfroe added another homer in the sixth inning, while Kyle Isbel and Vinnie Pasquantino also had impressive performances with several hits each.
Arizona’s rookie pitcher Yilber Diaz struggled, giving up seven runs over three innings. The game saw some tension as Royals reliever John Schreiber hit Gabriel Moreno with a pitch, leading to Arizona manager Torey Lovullo’s ejection after a heated argument.
