Biden Diagnosed with COVID, Heads Home to Delaware for Recovery
President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, announced White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and the president’s physician.
“Earlier today following his first event in Las Vegas, President Biden tested positive for COVID-19,” Jean-Pierre stated. “He is vaccinated, boosted, and experiencing mild symptoms.”
Biden will return to Delaware to isolate while continuing his duties, with regular updates from the White House, she said.
The president’s doctor revealed Biden developed a runny nose, cough, and general malaise on Wednesday afternoon.
“He felt okay for his first event of the day but given his symptoms didn’t improve, he was tested and found positive for COVID-19,” the doctor’s statement read. A PCR confirmation test is pending.
The doctor added, “His symptoms remain mild. His respiratory rate is normal at 16, his temperature at 97.8, and pulse oximetry at 97%.”
Biden has received his first dose of Paxlovid and will be isolating at his home in Rehoboth.
Before departing Las Vegas around 3:20 p.m. local time to head back to the East Coast, Biden mentioned he felt “good” and walked cautiously up the stairs to Air Force One, according to a White House pool report.
