PARIS, France — An action-packed day awaits Arizona athletes at the Paris Olympics with 11 competitors representing the state.
Arizonans will showcase their talents in basketball, beach volleyball, swimming, and skateboarding on Monday.
Here’s everyone to keep an eye on:
Diana Taurasi, Kahleah Copper, and Brittney Griner, Women’s Basketball:
A trio from the Phoenix Mercury will represent Team USA as they face Japan. Diana Taurasi, chasing her sixth Olympic gold, is joined by Kahleah Copper, a first-time Olympian, and Brittney Griner, a three-time Olympian. The Americans aim for an unprecedented eighth straight gold medal.
Rebecca Allen, Women’s Basketball:
Before Team USA steps onto the court, Mercury forward Rebecca ‘Bec’ Allen will play for Australia against Nigeria at 2 a.m. Arizona time. Allen, participating in her second Olympics, has helped Australia secure its place in Paris and is led by former Mercury head coach Sandy Brondello.
Promise Amukamara, Women’s Basketball:
Facing Allen will be Arizona State alumnus Promise Amukamara, representing Nigeria. Amukamara, drafted by the Mercury in 2015, boasts a storied career including a state championship and nine years in the NFL by her brother Prince. Now, she aims to lead Nigeria to victory.
Jagger Eaton, Men’s Skateboarding:

Chase Budinger, Men’s Beach Volleyball:
Former University of Arizona basketball player turned beach volleyball star, Chase Budinger, will debut in Olympic play. Budinger teams up with Miles Evans to face France at 7 a.m. Arizona time.
Regan Smith, Women’s Swimming:
Ex-Arizona State swimmer Regan Smith will compete in the women’s 100-meter backstroke. Smith, a world record holder, seeks her first Olympic gold after earning three medals in Tokyo. Preliminary heats start at 2:13 a.m., and the final is on Tuesday.
Bente and Lieke Rogge, Women’s Water Polo:
Sisters Bente and Lieke Rogge, representing the Netherlands, will play against China at 9:30 a.m. Arizona time. Fresh off a victory against Hungary, the duo will aim for continued success in the pool.
Mia Rycraw, Women’s Water Polo:
Playing for host nation France, former Sun Devil Mia Rycraw aims for her first Olympic victory after a loss to Spain. France faces Italy at 5 a.m. Arizona time.
