Arizona Republicans Targeted by Anti-Trump GOP Group to Rally Support for Harris
A coalition of anti-Trump Republicans is making significant investment efforts in Arizona as the election approaches. Republican Voters Against Trump announced a $2.4 million advertising campaign targeting the state’s GOP voters, part of a larger $15 million initiative across battleground states.
The strategy focuses on billboards and television advertisements showcasing testimonials from former Trump supporters endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris. The billboards declare, “I’m a former Trump voter. I’m voting for Harris,” while the ads feature 15- to 30-second clips of voters explaining their shift in allegiance.
This initiative represents a pivotal moment for the Republican Voters Against Trump campaign, coinciding with the crucial final weeks leading to the election.
Executive Director Sarah Longwell emphasized the importance of reaching swing voters. “It’s critical that we let them know what’s at stake,” she stated. “You can repudiate him without renouncing your deeply held conservative values. We’re here to help establish a permission structure for right-leaning swing voters to do the right thing and vote their conscience.”
Arizona remains a critical battleground state in the presidential race. Recent polls suggest that Trump has regained some ground after Harris, who replaced Joe Biden following his exit from the race, initially gained traction in July. Current polling averages indicate Trump holds a narrow one-point lead over Harris.
For Harris to secure victory in Arizona and other pivotal states, winning over disillusioned Republicans is essential. The Democratic success in 2022 highlighted this strategy, as they achieved victories in key statewide offices, including governor and U.S. Senate.
This approach also proved crucial in 2020 when Biden narrowly clinched Arizona’s electoral votes, winning by just over 11,000 votes.
