11 Olympians from Arizona, including three members of the Phoenix Mercury, competed in the Paris Olympics on Monday. Here’s how the day went.

PARIS, France — Another day of exciting Olympic action has been completed in France and 11 Arizona athletes competed and chased Olympic glory.

Arizonans were active across multiple venues: the basketball court, beach volleyball court, pool, and skatepark.

Here’s a look at how all the Arizona Olympians fared on Monday, July 29.

Diana Taurasi, Kahleah Copper and Brittney Griner, Women’s Basketball

The US Women’s Basketball Team, led by Chelsea Gray and A’Ja Wilson, won their 56th consecutive Olympic game, beating Japan 102-76 on Monday.

Mercury star Diana Taurasi managed two points and three rebounds. Teammates Brittney Griner and Kahleah Copper added 15 points and 11 rebounds combined. Copper had a scare after colliding with a Japanese player but returned to play later in the game.

Team USA will face Belgium next on Aug. 1 at noon Arizona time.

Promise Amukamara, Women’s Basketball

Promise Amukamara, a former Apollo High School and Arizona State player, helped Nigeria achieve their first Olympic win in 20 years, beating Australia 75-62. Amukamara scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out nine assists.

Nigeria’s next game is against France on Aug. 1 at 8:15 a.m. Arizona time.

Rebecca Allen, Women’s Basketball

Phoenix Mercury’s Rebecca Allen missed the Olympics due to a hamstring injury sustained earlier this month.

Jagger Eaton, Men’s Skateboarding

Mesa’s Jagger Eaton competed in men’s street skateboarding after a rain delay postponed the event. Despite the weather, Eaton secured a silver medal.

Chase Budinger, Men’s Beach Volleyball

Chase Budinger, a former University of Arizona basketball player, has reinvented himself as a beach volleyball player. Budinger and partner Miles Evans won their pool play match against France 2-0.

Regan Smith, Women’s Swimming

Former Arizona State swimmer Regan Smith finished as the top qualifier for the women’s 100-meter backstroke final with a time of 57.97 seconds. Smith will compete next on Tuesday at 11:56 a.m. Arizona time.

Bente and Lieke Rogge, Women’s Water Polo

Arizona State’s Bente and Lieke Rogge helped the Netherlands secure a 15-11 win over China. Bente scored once; Lieke netted two goals. The Netherlands will play Australia next.

Mia Rycraw, Women’s Water Polo

Sun Devil Mia Rycraw, playing for France, had 11 saves in their 9-8 victory over Italy. France will next face Team USA on Aug. 2.

Blaire McDowell, Women’s Water Polo

In Canada’s match against Hungary, Blaire McDowell saw 12:37 minutes of action but did not score. This is McDowell’s first Olympics. Canada will play China next.

Arizona Sports

Phoenix hosts four major professional sports teams: the Arizona Cardinals, Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury, and Arizona Diamondbacks. State Farm Stadium houses the Cardinals, while the Suns and the Mercury play at Footprint Center. The Arizona Rattlers play at Desert Diamond Arena.

The city also has the USL’s Phoenix Rising FC and hosts several major sporting events annually, including the Fiesta Bowl, WM Phoenix Open, NASCAR events, and Cactus League Spring Training.
