Arizona Leader Cheers as TSMC Unveils Multi-Billion Dollar Investment Plans

Arizona Congressman Abe Hamadeh (R-AZ8) responded to President Donald Trump’s recent announcement regarding a substantial agreement with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC). This initiative involves a $100 billion investment aimed at establishing chip manufacturing plants across the U.S. over the next four years.
“Earlier this month, my team met with representatives of TSMC to outline future job potential in Arizona,” Hamadeh noted. “Their focus on our veteran workforce aligns with President Trump’s American First Manufacturing agenda, promising high-paying job opportunities that will enhance the quality of life for residents in CD8.”
TSMC has been active in the U.S. since the implementation of the CHIPS Act in 2020. The company has faced scrutiny, including a lawsuit last November over allegations of preferential hiring practices toward Taiwanese nationals. Notably, its Arizona facility is situated within Hamadeh’s congressional district.
In December, the EPA issued a nonattainment status regarding ozone standards, creating challenges for TSMC’s Phoenix facility. This situation prompted intervention from then-Congresswoman Debbie Lesko, Hamadeh’s predecessor.
TSMC committed last December to constructing a second fabrication facility in North Phoenix, increasing its overall investment to $40 billion. According to Trump, the newly announced investment will expand the number of TSMC facilities in Arizona to five, generating thousands of job opportunities.
During a press conference, President Trump stated, “This $100 billion investment will lead to the creation of five advanced fabrication facilities in Arizona, translating to thousands of high-paying jobs. Overall, this announcement boosts TSMC’s total investments in the U.S. to approximately $165 billion.”
Trump emphasized the strategic significance of the investment, noting, “Taiwan essentially holds a monopoly on this market, making this collaboration essential for our economic and national security.”
The expansion of TSMC operations is projected to yield around 80,000 jobs over the next five years.
