Amazon drone service launches in West Valley

The West Valley has become a pioneer in drone delivery services, marking a significant milestone in logistics.

TOLLESON, Ariz. — Amazon has launched a groundbreaking delivery option that allows customers to receive their packages via drones in under an hour. This innovative service is expected to change the landscape of online shopping.

“It’s flying and it’s ready to deliver to lucky customers in the West Valley,” said Amazon spokesperson Zoe Richmond. According to Richmond, consumer expectations for delivery times have evolved, and Amazon aims to meet those needs. “This is just that revolution of innovation to continue and find innovative ways to delight our customers,” she added.

The drone delivery service had been in the pipeline since April, with extensive testing taking place across various states. As of November, the West Valley officially became one of the first regions in the nation to deploy this service. “While we tested in places like California and Texas, the West Valley is our first successful implementation within the network infrastructure,” Richmond explained.

Customers can choose from over 50,000 eligible items during checkout. Once selected, drones will take off and deliver the package directly to the customer’s property. However, there are specific requirements for this service. Deliveries are restricted to daytime hours, and packages must weigh five pounds or less. Additionally, customers must reside approximately seven miles from the Tolleson Facility located near 107th Avenue and West Van Buren.

This launch coincides with the peak holiday shopping season, particularly on Cyber Monday. Richmond expressed excitement about the service: “Amazon is ready to deliver smiles all year round. The drone delivery option is one more way to surprise and delight our customers.”

An extra fee applies for those opting for drone delivery: $9.99 for Prime members and $14.99 for non-members.
