2 Emergency Ambulances Race from Tragic MCG Crash Scene

A significant traffic incident unfolded on the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway on January 21, 2025, resulting in a complete shutdown of the roadway in both directions. The crash occurred around 3 p.m., marking the second major accident on this stretch of road that day.
The Maricopa Police Department promptly responded to the multi-vehicle collision that took place just east of Russell Road, near the airport. Approximately 90 minutes after the initial accident, at about 4:30 p.m., the Maricopa Fire and Medical Department dispatched a fire battalion chief, Engine 572, and two ambulances to the scene.
Both ambulances, with lights and sirens activated, departed the area around 5 p.m., heading toward Maricopa. Reports suggested that the ambulances were transporting injured individuals.
The crash involved a white pickup truck pulling a trailer that collided with a black Nissan passenger van. The impact caused both vehicles to spin out, ending up facing opposite directions. Airbags deployed in the van, while the pickup truck suffered a flattened tire and a detached trailer.
Debris from the wreckage cluttered the highway, leading to significant traffic congestion, with vehicles backed up for miles in both directions. By 5:08 p.m., police officers were measuring the distance from the train tracks to the crash site, though no additional details were provided at that time.
As of 5:30 p.m., the area remained at a complete standstill. Tow trucks arrived on the scene to assist, but traffic towards Maricopa was reported to be backed up for over a mile. Many drivers heading to Casa Grande chose to turn around and return to Maricopa, attempting to avoid the blocked highway.
InMaricopa has reached out to authorities for further information regarding the cause of the crash, the extent of injuries sustained, and whether there were any fatalities involved in this troubling incident.
