2 Buckeye police officers assaulted by suspect


Baseline Road is currently closed as Buckeye police investigate a truck theft and subsequent crash.

BUCKEYE, Ariz. — This morning, two officers were reportedly assaulted by a suspect during an arrest, according to local authorities. The road closure extends between 1st Avenue East and 1st Avenue West for police operations.

Officers responded to a report regarding a stolen City of Buckeye truck, taken from a work site near Baseline Road and Central Boulevard where crews were engaged in a project.

After the theft, the suspect crashed the vehicle into a parked, unoccupied car about a block from the scene. When the suspect tried to flee, a vigilant city employee intervened, assisting in detaining him until law enforcement arrived.

During the arrest, the suspect assaulted two Buckeye officers. Both sustained minor injuries; one required hospital treatment, as reported by police.
